Interview With 3-Star Creighton Commit Modestas Kancleris

After finishing on top of the Big East last season, the Creighton University Blue Jays landed some tremendous new talent that will help keep them on top of the Big East for the 2020-2021 season.  Modestas Kancleris, one of the Blue Jay rookies, will be coming all the way from Lithuania next season.  Kancleris is a 3-star power forward who will likely be looked upon to make an immediate impact.  I had the pleasure of interviewing him about both the upcoming season and his basketball career up until this point.

Modestas Kancleris has spent the last four years playing for BC Zalgiris which is a professional basketball team in Lithuania.  He also competed with both the U-16 and U-18 Lithuanian National Teams.  When asked about how playing for the Lithuanian National Teams helped his development as a player Kancleris said that, “It helped me learn how to play on a big stage”.  This kind of experience in big stage games should fare well for the youngster as he joins a Creighton team who competes in a tough Big East conference and will look to be one of the top teams in the nation next year.

Kancleris says that the number one thing that he will bring to the table for the Blue Jays next season is “hustle on every rebound on the court.”  The Lithuanian power forward is listed at 6-foot-9 which should allow him to match up well against most of his competition this season.  Every team needs the kind of player who is willing to go after any rebound and it sounds as if Modestas Kancleris is going to be that guy for Creighton.  He has high hopes for the team’s success this year saying that the team’s goal is “definitely to be the top team in all NCAA”.  Not just a top team. But THE top team.  Creighton enjoyed great success last season and they will look to build on that success with the additions of Modestas Kancleris, Rati Andronikashvili, Ryan Kalkbrenner, and Duke transfer Alex O’Connell.
