Jonathan Kuminga who played his last season at The Patrick School in New Jersey and is currently ranked #1 in the class of 2021 but will more than likely reclassify when he announces his commitment. A commitment should come soon and Kuminga has his options narrowed down, with a finalist that will become common for a lot of top recruits in the future.
Kuminga announced his top 5 on May 22nd featuring, Duke, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Auburn, and the G League.
All 5 are great options but most believe Kuminga will choose to go pro or join his brother, Joel Ntambwe at Texas Tech. If Jonathan chooses to go the pro route like top recruits Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd did, it would be interesting to see if he winds up in the G League. The G League would seem like the sure choice for him but via the Frequently Asked Questions about the G League select contracts on their website, they state, “to sign a Select Contract, a player must be 18 years old by September 15 of the year he’ll play in the NBA G League and be considered an elite prospect.”
For Kuminga, who is currently a class of 2021 prospect, he hasn’t turned 18 and won’t do so until October 6th. I’m sure the NBL will still be an option and potentially a slight change in order to help the G League land Kuminga and boost this new program.
If he chooses the college route, expect him to go to Texas Tech and you can count Tech in as a top 5 team with him.
