Week 2 brought you a ton of first. The Lion 1st round pick (3rd overall) Jeff Okudah made his debut. Talented LSU pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson recorded his first sack of the season for the Jaguars. Wide out Chase Claypool raced past two defenders and pulled in an 84 yard touchdown for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Some really great plays and performances but here are your top 5 for week 2 of the NFL season.

Cincinnati Bengals

  1. QB – JOE BURROW – LSU – 6’3” 221 – 1ST ROUND (#1 OVERALL)

vs. Cleveland Browns (L, 35-30)

Game day Stats: 37-67 completions / 316 passing yards / 3 touchdown / 0 interceptions

Burrow 1st Career Touchdown Pass

Ohio Joe showed a ton of mental toughness despite the loss in prime time Thursday night. The Bengals offensive line is going through some growing pains with 2 second year players on the left side and Bobby Hart on the Right. Being a Giants fan I know the ramifications of having Hart as your starting tackle. Despite being under extreme pressure most of the night Burrow picked himself up and kept his team in the game. After a third quarter fumble that should have closed the game, Burrow bounced back with 3 long scoring drives to keep the Bengals within a reach. Despite the 0-2 start Burrow showed in both games he certainly has the guts to be an NFL quarterback.

Tampa Bay Bucs

2. DB – Antoine Winfield Jr. – 5’9” 203 – Minnesota – 2nd Round pick (45th overall)

vs. Carolina Panther (W, 31-17)

Game day Stats: 11 total Tackles / 1 sacks / 1 forced Fumble

Winfield force fumbled on his first career sack

Winfield had 6 tackles week 1 but in week 2 he expanded his game to show the play maker he is capable of being. He was impressive with his open field tackling from the safety position especially against Christian McCafferty. Winfield made a huge play on a blitz for the Bucs. Coming off the edge he chased down Teddy Bridgwater, sacked him , and forced a fumble. The big play was followed by a Mike Evans touchdown catch putting the Bucs up 14-0.

Performance Rating: 3.90

Next Game: at Denver Broncos 4:25 Sunday

Los Angeles Chargers

3. QB – Justin Hebert – 6’6” 236 – Oregon – 1st Round pick (6th Overall)

vs. Kansas City Chiefs (L, 23-20)

Game Day Stats: 22-33 completions / 316 yards / 1 touchdown / 1 interception / Rushing: 18 yards / 1 touchdown

1ST Career Start

Justin Hebert had no time to be nervous when he found out about 10 minutes before kickoff he would be the starter for the Chargers. Tyrod Taylor left the game in warm ups to which we found out later was a punctured lung from taking a pain killer shot before the game. Taylor was taking the shot because of a cracked rib he got the week prior. The rookie from Oregon proved a lot against the defending champs. We already knew he had big time arm strength but he also proved he is both mentally and physically tough. Those two traits are arguably the most important at the quarterback in the NFL. He moved around the pocket with confidence, delivered the ball on time, and ran the ball with toughness. He should remain the starter while Taylor is out for the foreseeable future.

Performance Rating: 3.85

Next Game: vs. Carolina Panthers 4:05 Sunday

Dallas Cowboys

4. WR- Cee Dee Lamb – 6’2” 198 – Oklahoma – 1st round pick (17th overall)

vs. Atlanta Falcons (W, 40-39)

Game day Stats: 6 receptions / 106 yards

Looking at Dallas’s offense, finding ways to get Cee Dee Lamb the ball in space seems to be a big part of the game plan. Lamb lined up in various spots on the field, utilized in motion, and even handed the ball to him on a jet sweep. I think we have only scratched the surface with this young receiver. Lamb is going to be a move the sticks monster in the pros. 5 of his 6 catches went for first downs in week 2. Lamb also showed up big on the Cowboys final drive to complete an incredible comeback. Lambs 24 yard catch and run got the Cowboys in field goal range to hit the game winner. Look for more down field looks in the weeks to come for the young slot receiver.

Performance Rating: 3.85

Next Game: at Seattle Seahawks 4:25pm Sunday

Indianapolis Colts

5. RB – Jonathan Taylor-5’10” – 226 – Wisconsin – 2nd round pick (9th overall)

vs. Minnesota Vikings (W, 28-11)

Game day Stats: 26 carries 101 yards 1 touchdown

Taylor earned the start in week 2 after his 6 catches for 61 yards in a loss to the Jaguars. In week 2 against the Vikings he carried the load for the Colt in a 28-11 victory. The rookie running back showed his 1 cut and go style in the Colts zone running game. It doesn’t hurt that he got to run behind All-Pro offensive lineman Quinten Nelson. Taylor didn’t have any spectacular runs (13 yards was his longest) but was consistently chipping away at the Vikings defense. Taylor scored his first career rushing touchdown.

Performance Rating: 3.70

Next Game: vs. New York Jets 4:05pm Sunday

Sleeper 6:

Jacksonville Jaguars

RB – James Robinson – 5’10” 225 – Illinois State – undrafted

vs. Tennessee Titan (L, 33-30)

Game Day Stats: 16 carries / 102 yards / 1 touchdown

Robinson is back on the list improving on last week’s debut. The undrafted rookie notched his first hundred yard game and rushing touchdown of his career. Robinson flashed some burst on two of his runs: the first being a 17 yard touchdown and second being a 39 yarder that set up a Gardner Minshew touchdown pass. Adding to his resume Robinson also showed a strong ability to pick up the blitz. If Robinson keeps this pace and he will find himself out of the sleeper category and into the top 5. Having a big game in prime time will help people learn who he is.

Performance Rating: 3.60

Next Game: vs. Miami Dolphins 8:20 Thursday

Week 3 Draft Class Matchups:

2020 Draft Class:

Washington DE-Chase Young vs. Cleveland Browns OT-Jedrick Wills Jr.

  • Both players are off to good starts. Here is hoping they lineup over each other for 60 minutes.

Minnesota Vikings WR – Justin Jefferson vs. Tennessee Titans CB – Kristain Fulton

  • Fulton got his first pick last week and Jefferson has 5 receptions so far. Battle of LSU.

Jacksonville Jaguars K’Lavon Chaisson vs Miami Dolphins OT- Austin Jackson

  • Chaisson had his first sack last week for the surprising Jags and Jackson has played 100% of the offensive snaps this season at Left Tackle.

Baltimore Ravens LB – Patrick Queen vs. Kansas City Cheifs RB – Clyde Edwards-Helaire

  • Edwards-Helaire showed out week one and Queen is a play maker at linebacker. Another LSU battle. There is a reason they won the National Champs.

Throwback Draft Class Battle

2017 Draft Class:

Pittsburg Steelers OLB – TJ Watt vs. Houston Texans QB – Deshaun Watson

  • Watt chasing Watson all night long will be an intriguing battle. I wonder if JJ has any tips about TJ?
