This weeks 56 list features 3 late 1st round picks, 2 top 10 picks, and an undrafted rookie. Proving once again you can find talent anywhere in the draft. In week 3 we once again had a number of first in these young players’ careers. Week 4 presents what would be the last preseason game in a normal season. We will have to wait and see if the level of play rises after this or preseason games are just a money grab for NFL owners. Here is your Top 5 for week 3 and other highlights.

  1. WR – Justin Jefferson – 6’1” 202 – LSU – 1st Round pick (22nd overall) vs. Tennessee Titans (L, 31-30)

Game day Stats: 7 receptions / 175 receiving yards / 1 touchdown

Jefferson 1st career touchdown catch

Jefferson had his coming out party against a strong Tennessee Titans defense. The Vikings needed a big play receiver to replace Stephan Diggs after last season’s trade. Jefferson showed his full arsenal of abilities Sunday afternoon. He caught short hitches, intermediate dig routes, and got down field to make a couple of huge plays. His game was highlighted by a dynamic 71 yard touchdown catch sprinting past the initial defender and making the next one look foolish in the open field. Despite the Vikings 0-3 start they may have found their go to guy offensively.

Performance Rating: 4.5

Next Game: at Houston Texans 1:00pm Sunday

2. RB – CLYDE EDWARDS-HELAIRE – LSU – 5’7” 207 – 1st ROUND (32ND OVERALL) vs. Baltimore Ravens (W, 34-20)

Game day Stats: 64 rushing yards / 5 receptions / 70 yards receiving

Edwards-Helaire is back on the list making an early case for offensive rookie of the year. The diminutive running back showed excellent patients on both running plays in between the tackles and also setting up his blocks on screen passes. Kansas City even caught Baltimore in some mismatches with Edwards- Helaire out of the backfield. Clyde Edwards-Helaire seems to embrace the spotlight. Not only did he have 164 total yards in January’s National title game, but had 138 yards rushing in the season opener in prime time, and on Monday Night in what was a marquee AFC match up had 134 total yards. The guy preforms in the big game. The Chiefs visit the Buffalo Bills Thursday night October 15th. We will see if the “Fresh Prince of Helaire” can keep coming up big under the bright lights.

Performance Rating: 4.0

Next Game: vs. New England Patriots 4:00pm Sunday

3. WR – Brandon Aiyuk – Arizona State – 6’0” 205 – 1ST ROUND (25th Overall) vs. Cleveland Browns (W, 36-9)

Game day Stats: 5 receptions / 70 receiving yards / 3 carries / 31 rushing yards / 1 rushing touchdown.

Aiyuk first career touchdown

Kyle Shannon went into week 3 with a depleted roster and had to look for ways to utilize the weapons he had left. Enter Brandon Aiyuk. The rookie in his first start showed his ability to catch the ball in traffic and the his elusiveness in the open field. Aiyuk turn an impressive 3rd quarter drive into his own personal highlight film. He caught 3 passes 39 yards and capped it off with a 19 yard touchdown run. Look for Aiyuk role to expand even further next week.

Performance Rating: 3.70

Next Game: vs. Philadelphia Eagles 8:20pm Sunday

4. DB – Jeff Okudah – 6’1” 205 – Ohio State – 1st Round pick (3rd Overall) vs. Arizona Cardinals (W, 26-23)

Game Day Stats: 6 solos tackles / 2 tackles for a loss / 1 interception 36 yard return / 1 pass break up.

A lot of the talking heads and football experts wanted to bury Jeff Okudah after the first two weeks. After missing week one, he struggled against Devante Adams and the Green Bay Packers. Week 3 there would be no rest for the weary when he would be matched up against DeAndre Hopkins and the high powered Cardinals. Okudah held his own against the All-Pro wide out. It was not a perfect performance by any stretch of the imagination but Okudah competed with a top 3 receiver in the league. He had his moments making a great open field tackle on a screen to Hopkins and a dynamic diving interception undercutting a Kyler Murray pass. This is a passing league people! Corner is one of the toughest adjustments to make from College to Pro. Okudah is only going to get better with each week.

Performance Rating: 3.6

Next Game: vs. New Orleans Saints 1:00pm Sunday

Cleveland Browns

5. OT – Jedrick Wills – 6’4” – 312 – Wisconsin – 1st round pick (10th overall) vs. Washington (W, 34-20)

Game day Stats: Team gave up 2 sacks to a team that had 11 coming into the week 2 match up.

Wills #71 left tackle pancake block on touchdown run

Wills had his best outing as a pro this week against a very strong Washington defense. Coming into the game Washington’s defensive had been one of the best in the league early on at getting to the quarterback. His match up with Chase Young was short lived when the 2nd pick overall went out of the game with an injury and didn’t return. Montez Sweat, a first round pick in his own right, matched up with Wills for most of the game. Wills held his own all day and even recorded a nice pancake block creating a cutback lane on a Nick Chubb touchdown run.

Performance Rating: 3.5

Next Game: at Dallas Cowboys 1:00pm Sunday

Jacksonville Jaguars

RB – James Robinson – 5’10” 225 – Illinois State – undrafted – vs. Miami Dolphins (L, 31-13)

Game Day Stats: 11 carries / 46 rushing yards / 2 touchdowns / 6 receptions / 83 receiving yards

The only reason James Robinson is in the sleeper category is because he went undrafted. Robinson was the one bright spot in a dismal performance by the Jags. Robinson continues to impress in both his ability to run with the football, receiving out of the backfield, and his ability to pass protect. This week he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month. Along with Edward-Helaire, Robinson will be in the early running for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Performance Rating: 3.5

Next Game: at Cincinnati Bengals 1:00pm Sunday

Week 3 2020 Draft Class Match ups Results:

Washington DE-Chase Young vs. Cleveland Browns OT- Jedrick Wills Jr.

  • Winner: Jedrick Wills battled with Montez Sweat the whole game and did a solid job. Young went out early on game with an injury.

Minnesota Vikings WR – Justin Jefferson vs. Tennessee Titans CB – Kristain Fulton

  • Winner: Justin Jefferson had a monster day, however he matched up predominately with Malcolm Butler not Fulton.

Jacksonville Jaguars K’Lavon Chaisson vs Miami Dolphins OT- Austin Jackson

  • Winner: Austin Jackson and the Dolphins offense held the Jags to 1 sack (coverage sack) and rushed for 138 yards as a team. Chaisson only managed 2 tackles on the night.

Baltimore Ravens LB – Patrick Queen vs. Kansas City RB – Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Week 4 2020 Draft Class Match ups:

Cincinnati Bengals QB – Joe Burrow vs. Jacksonville Jaguars CB – CJ Henderson

  • Ohio Joe against Sunshine State CJ. I would rather watch these guys battle Sunday in the swing states than the two geriatrics we had on Tuesday.

Los Angeles Chargers QB – Justin Herbert vs. Tampa Bay Bucs S – Antoine Winfield Jr.

  • Winfield is becoming a player maker for the Bucs defense. This will be start #3 for Hebert and defenses have made adjustments…your move now rook.

Week 3 Throwback Draft Class Battle Results:

2017 Draft Class:

Pittsburg Steelers OLB – TJ Watt vs. Houston Texans QB – Deshaun Watson

  • Winner: TJ Watt was in Watson’s face all day and had a couple of big hits on him as well. This one goes to the Steelers and TJ Watt.

Throwback Draft Class Battle Week 4:

2018 Draft class:

New York Jets QB – Sam Darnold vs. Denver Broncos Edge – Bradley Chubb

  • Both Players and franchises are at a cross roads. After promising starts to their careers both players need to step up in year 3. It’s a horrible Thursday Night match up you got to have some reason to tune in.

Rookie Play of the Weekend:

The kind of play ever coach loves on one side and despises on the other.

Excellent effort by Diggs
