Movers and Shakers
Maui Mayhem:
After three days of games at the Maui Invitational (from Asheville, NC) our top 25 changed drastically. Texas won the tournament and jumped from #22 to #12, and likely would have cracked the top 10 if not for a home loss against Villanova to end the week. UNC slipped from #13 to #16 after losing to Texas in the title game, and Alabama went from #23 to unranked after a blowout loss to Stanford.
Big Week Ahead:
This week is headlined by the ACC vs Big 10 challenge, where the best of the best in to of college basketball’s top conferences go head to head. This week’s Top 25 contains 11 teams from those conferences slated to play in the challenge, including a handful of ranked vs ranked matchups.
Tip In to A Tumble:
After a heartbreaking loss to in state rival Marquette, in which the Golden Eagles tipped in a rebound as time expired to win, Wisconsin finds themselves dropping 13 spots from #4 to #17.
New In Town:
Three new teams debut in the poll this week, as the Florida Gators jump in at #24 following a 3-0 start in their first week of the season, while Saint Louis debuts at #25 after following up their victory over LSU with a 53 point win over Arkansas Pine Bluff. Ohio State has taken care of business against three mid major opponents, and after being the first team out in last week’s poll returns to the top 25 at #19
See Ya Later:
Three teams in means three teams out, after a blowout loss to Stanford to open the Maui Invitational the Crimson Tide took wins from Providence and UNLV to finish the stretch 2-1, but it wasn’t enough to remain ranked. Two teams from the preseason top 10 are now officially unranked, as Virginia has fallen from #4 to #19 to unranked after a narrow OT win against Kent State, and Kentucky has fallen from #6 to #14 to unranked after a disastrous start that has seen them open the year 1-3 with losses to Richmond, Kansas, and Georgia Tech.
