Week 0 was a nice warmup, but this week is where we really hit the ground running. The research has been done and the picks are in. All 1 unit bets. Let’s rock.
ICYMI: I concocted a “Might Not Lose Parlay” earlier this week that can be found here.
The Picks
For the readers sake, these picks will be listed in order of game start time. “Thank you for being so considerate Dylan”. “No problem guys”.
Iowa -3.5 (-110) vs. Indiana | Saturday @ 3:30
This will be a hard fought game. There is no doubt that Michael Penix Jr. is an extremely dynamic quarterback and is bound to make spectacular plays for the Hoosiers all afternoon. However, I don’t think Indiana’s offense is going to be able to string together enough strong drives to cover the spread in this one. Iowa’s defense is excellent. I’d expect them to be strong against the run and they return 3 seniors to their secondary that will make it near impossible for Penix Jr. to get anything going through the air. Iowa should come out very strong in their home opener in a packed stadium and bully Indiana off the field Saturday.
Trend: Iowa is 4-1 ATS in the their last 5 as a favorite.
Auburn -37 (-110) vs. Akron | Saturday @ 7:00
Akron plays football?
Clemson -3 (-110) vs. Georgia | Saturday @ 7:30
This game could end up being the game of the year. Both of these teams could be fighting for a spot in the College Football playoff. Ultimately, I’m rocking with Clemson. They will defend their home field Saturday night and beat JT Daniels and the Georgia Bulldogs.
I am most excited to watch DJ Uiagalelei, who is stepping in at QB this year replacing Trevor Lawrence. Uiagalelei is incredible talent and has the ability to light up the scoreboard against any defense in the country. Last season against Notre Dame, Uiagalelei stepped in for Trevor Lawrence and threw for 439 years with 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He will start his quest for the Heisman trophy on Saturday night.
Georgia and Clemson both boast top level defensive units, but I think with the home crowd behind them Clemson will emerge victorious in this one.
Texas A&M -28.5 (-110) vs. Kent State | Saturday @ 8:00
For pick explanation, refer back to Akron. Same reasoning.
Arizona +12.5 (-110) vs. BYU | Saturday @ 10:30
I don’t think Arizona will be able to pull off a win this Saturday, but I do think they will do enough to cover the spread. BYU’s offense is going to have to adjust to the post Zach Wilson era and I don’t think they’ll be able to put up enough points to cover a 12.5 point spread. Arizona has a much improved defense that will look to perform the home field Saturday night and I expect them to come up with important stops all night long. Back the Wildcats.
