If Texas football is ever going to make its way back to the top of the college football landscape, now is the time. Talent has never been the issue with the Longhorns. This is a team that gets some of the best recruits in the country year in and year out. Their issue is execution, and that is something that falls largely on the shoulders of the coach. Steve Sarkisian, the former Alabama offensive coordinator, is now in charge of this football team. Sarkisian has always gotten the most out of his players, and I expect him to turn star running back Bijan Robinson into one of the best offensive players in the country. As far as quarterback goes, we’ve all seen what Sarkisian has done with Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and most recently Mac Jones. He creates NFL caliber quarterbacks, and Hudson Card has a playstyle that fits what Sarkisian wants to do as well as the weapons, most notably freshman Xavier Worthy and junior Joshua Moore, to execute.
Louisiana-Lafayette is young at wide receiver and running back, and they’re facing an experienced, athletic, and physical Texas defense. I expect the Longhorns to force quarterback Levi Lewis to make plays down the field and the result will be a lot of turnovers in favor of Texas.
The line for this game is disrespectful to Texas, and I expect them to get on top early in this one and control the time of possession to coast to an easy week 1 victory. PICK: Texas -8.5
