Sideline Sports CBB Top 25 Week Three

The last time we were here, not much changed. Some ranked teams lost to ranked teams and some dropped because of upset scares. Oh baby is this week the opposite, we have tons of shakeup after a week of upsets, ranked vs ranked games, and more college basketball chaos. Lets get into our Top 25

Breaking It Down

Gambling At Mohegan Sun:

When you go to a casino, there’s always something at risk, and for the 4 teams who played in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, only Purdue walked away as a winner, moving up to #3 in our poll. Villanova and Tennessee stayed ranked but dropped a bit, and North Carolina is now nowhere to be found, not receiving a single vote.

Showdown At The Top:

Its not every day, or even every year, that we get to see a #1 vs #2 matchup in college basketball, but Tuesday we will as Gonzaga and UCLA square off in Vegas for the title of #1 team in the land. It’s a rematch from a phenomenal Final Four game, and Dick Vitale returns to announcing after his battle with cancer. Set an alarm, mark your calendars, there’s no reason to miss this.

Whats Up With The Wolverines:

Michigan brought back an All-American, multiple five star recruits, and solid transfers, but after starting the season at #s 6 and 5, they had a horrendous week, dropping a home game to Seton Hall and a neutral site blowout loss against Arizona. While both of these teams are very good, Juwan Howard finds his club in a free fall moving to #22 in our rankings.

New In Town:

After a week of upsets, five new teams join the rankings for the first time this season. BYU at number 15 after doing un-Mormon things to Oregon, Tommy Lloyd’s Arizona at #16 after beating down Michigan, Seton Hall at #21 after taking a road win over Michigan, USC hasn’t played much in terms of competition but has been consistent enough to land at #24, and Indiana, who received votes in all our polls so far, debuts at #25 after beating St John’s in one of the Big 10’s only Gavitt Games wins.

See You Around:

Five teams in means five teams out, most notably North Carolina, who struggled with College of Charleston before falling to Purdue and getting their doors blown off by Tennessee. Oregon leaves the poll after the aforementioned beat down BYU put on them, Maryland was upset by Kim English and George Mason, Ohio State lost at Xavier, and Virginia Tech through no fault of their own moves just outside the Top 25, the only team who left the poll that still received votes.
